TECHNOLOGY ACCEPTANCE MODEL AS A MEDIATOR EXPLAINING FACTORS AFFECTING ONLINE EDUCATION

Purpose – This study aimed to provide educators with information concerning which factors impacts the student intension to use online learning, this was explained by the mediator technology acceptance model (TAM). It investigated the external factors and the mediating effect of the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness on the intention to use online learning.
Design/methodology/approach – Results were obtained from surveying 202 university students, 80 were undergraduates while 122 were postgraduates. Public and private universities were represented in the sample, 53% of the sample were private university students while 47% were public students. 62.4% were students outside Cairo, whereas 37.6% were from residential areas outside Cairo. Smart PLS 3 has been used to test hypothesis the direct and indirect involving testing mediation.
Findings -There was no direct effect between the instructor online self-efficacy , student online self-efficacy and the student intention to use online education. While there is a direct significant relationship between the organizational support and student intention to use online education.
Originality/value – This research discusses the online learning in the Egyptian higher education context , data represented the education type and level that might affect students' behavioral intention to learn online . Having the TAM as the mediator affected the relations between variables . This study will provide educators , those responsible for the management and development of online learning with significant information about how students perceive online learning and ways to encourage students adoption.
